The DARA-Medieval Aragonese Documents project was presented today. It is the subportal, created by the Government of Aragon with keensoft’s nubarchiva product to group together all of the documents relating to five centuries of history and information that have been preserved in Aragon’s archives, from 1035 to 1516.
At the press conference Aragon’s Councilor for Education, University, Culture and Sports, Dolores Serrat, the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Javier Callizo and the Director of the Historical Archive of the Province of Huesca, Juan José Generelo, presented this portal that boasts 21,982 documents dating prior to 1516 of which 8,735 have been scanned, making a total of more than 100,000 pages.
This portal offers information via a powerful search engine that is able to locate information quickly and effectively and what is more, its design is responsive so that it can be accessed from tablets to smartphones. The import of multiple, heterogeneous fonts and their adaptation has been a huge challenge for the import module of our product, which supports more than 10 different fonts. The level of cooperation between participating institutions and entities in the portal is reflected by the option to download all of the information in each document in standard archive formats which goes a long way to strengthening interoperability between institutions and to opening them up.
