Last Saturday, January 13rd, keensoft UST Global sponsored the Technovation Challenge Aragón official launch event-workshop in the Open Urban Lab space inside ETOPÍA.
The event was a huge successful and overcame all the expectations with a total of 20 teams formed by 55 girls. These girls are becomed in the first Aragonese participants of this initiative that seeks promoting technological and enterprising between girls among 10 to 18 years old.
What is Technovation Challenge Aragón?
Technovation Challenge, starts at the EE.UU. in 2009. Since then, more than 11,000 girls and 4,500 mentors from 116 different countries have participated. In Spain, it began its journey in 2015 in Barcelona and Madrid, promoted and supported by the American Consulate and the American Embassy; and this is the first time that the initiative opens up to our region Aragon.
The objective is to bring girls to entrepreneurship and to the fields known as STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Technovation Challenge has a powerful effect. After participating in Technovation, participants are more interested in:
- Computer Science (78%)
- Entrepreneurship (70%)
- Business Leadership (67%)
What is the purpose?
During the next three months, the 20 teams of girls, (with the support of the volunteer mentors) will work following a curriculum established by Iridescent – the American NGO responsible for the program – to develop entrepreneurship, programming and communication skills in girls and teamwork. In 12 weeks, the girls will detect problems in their community, will design and program mobile apps that help solve them, and will learn how to communicate their ideas and translate them into business plans. The final products will be presented, in English, to an international jury.
The participants aim for prizes for the best apps in each division in the semifinals regional. They also aim for be continental winners. And finally, they also aim for qualify to the world final (that will be celebrated in Silicon Valley) with scholarships between 5,000 and 15,000 dollars. And of course, besides the economical prizes, the participants will have the opportunity of enjoying a unforgettable learning experience, empowerment and teamwork.
